Arriving in Rio

- Maestro Antônio Carlos Jobim International Airport is conveniently
located within 30 minutes of downtown Rio de Janeiro. Another option is
the Santos-Dumont Airport, located at downtown, within 15 minutes of IME.
The Road Terminal Novo Rio
is the place where intermunicipal and interstate buses arrive in the
city of Rio de Janeiro. Located at Santo Cristo, within 10 minutes of
downtown. It is served by a taxi point and by several bus lines for the several areas of the city. Another option is the integration Subway-bus, which arrives to several areas of the city, including IME .
The best transportation option from Rio's Tom Jobim International Airport to Leme and
Copacabana, not the cheapest, is to use a special Taxi cab service.
There are some counters in the Arrival area (close to the luggage carousels) that provide
transfer to Leme and Copacabana for approximately R$ 70,00
(appr. US$ 35,00) that you could pay by credit cards (at the counter).
Regular taxis (yellow ones) could be taken on the exit of the arrival area, costing
approximately R$ 40,00 (appr. US$ 20,00). However, you must pay with
cash (reals) most of them.
A transfer from Santos Dumont Regional Airport to Leme by special taxis
costs R$ 34,00 (US$ 17,00) and by regular ones costs approximately
R$ 20,00 (US$ 10,00).
There will be special shuttle buses taking the registered participants
from the three indicated hotels to the conference site and back. The buses will
pass by the Leme Othon Palace Hotel approximately at 7:40 am. They will leave the conference
venue from 6pm.
We will have a check-in counter to the conference on July 1st
(Sunday) from 6pm to 7:30pm at the Leme Otton Palace. You should go
there and look for Marcelo Correa, Petrucio Viana and/or Renata de Freitas.
After that we will have an informal gathering to drink some caipirinha at La Fiorentina
We shall use conference rooms in two buildings (located in the same square) as follows:

BCS (i.e. the large meeting) organizers will provide transportation
from the official hotels to the conference venue and back. Timetable will
be provided at the
2007 BCS conference webpage.
The conference cocktail will be on July 3rd (Thusday) 7pm at the
conference venue. It is for free.
Conference dinner also will be offerred by the BCS on July 4th (Wednesday)
8pm at the Copacabana Fort.
This will cost R$40,00 (appr. US$20.00) per person. This amount includes
transportation from (and to) the conference site or the official hotels,
a first course, a main course, dessert and live Brazilian music. Beverages
and drinks must be paid aside.
There are not so many places available, thus, you should send us a
msg (email@example.com) to confirm your interest in taking part in this social activity.
Arrangements could be done to make a short excursion to
the Christ Redeemer's statue on Thursday afternoon.
That should cost approximately R$ 20,00 (US$ 10.00) per person for transportation.

Places in the neighbourhood of Leme where you can go to eat during your
Close around the official hotel, in Leme, there are some nice restaurants.
The main ones (in decreasing order of sophistication), are Da Bambrini,
Marius, La Fiorentina, Shirley, and Universidade do Chopp.
Prices are fair and it is usual to tip 10%, which is normally included in the bill.
They are open every day until late.
La Fiorentina is a very traditional place where the most popular
Carioca personalities usually go to eat, drink and discuss culture,
politics, science, etc. Italian cuisine.
Marius is a two environment place offering
barbecue and sea food (all-you-can-eat) buffets.
A group formed by two or more persons could have discounts on the fixed prices of each
buffet if they make a reservation with our contact there: Ms. Fátima Dutra.

Shirley is also very traditional. Despite being a small place, located
in a street behind the hotel, there you can eat some really delicious sea
food with Spanish accent.
Universidade do Chopp is a bar where people go after the beach to eat some
"tira-gosto" and drink draft beer and caipirinha.
Copacabana is plenty of really good places and we will just list our
Amir, Rua Ronald de Carvalho, 55, Middle East food.

- Offseason Samba school (open air) concert and citizen Carnival parade:
As Panamerican Games' cultural activities, some concerts and parades will provide a little taste of Carnival in midyear.
July 1st (sundaY): the Portela's drum set (a famous Rio's Samba School) presents "classics of Samba"
at the Flamengo Park from 10am to 1pm.
July 8th (sunday) : carnival group "Simpatia é Quase Amor" promotes a citizen carnival parade
at Ipanema beach from 3pm on.
The event was idealized to bring awareness to the world community about the effects of global warming and
will happen simultaneously in seven countries, distributed throughout five continents
(United States, England, Brazil, South Africa, Japan, China and Australia).
In Rio de Janeiro, the festival will bring bands and artists together
(Alanis Morissette, Lenny Kravitz, Pharrell Williams, Good Charlote, Ivete Sangalo, O Rappa, ...)
The seven events around the world, which will happen during the 24 hours of July 7th,
will be televised, and broadcasted through radio and Internet portals.
